The quality mental health, substance use, and suicide prevention services provided by Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services are made possible through the generous financial support of individuals, foundations, and corporations.

Charitable gifts help you meet your philanthropic goals and extend your generosity well into the future. A planned gift can also protect your assets, provide for your family, and guarantee your income for life. You can even make a significant impact through a gift that costs nothing in your lifetime, through a charitable bequest under your will. Become a member of the Didi Hirsch Legacy Society by making a planned gift.
Secure a charitable estate-tax deduction for the value of the gift, and know that your generosity will support our mission for years to come.
Your retirement-plan benefits are likely a significant portion of your net worth, and because of special tax considerations, they could make an excellent choice for funding a charitable gift.
Gifts of long-term appreciated property can generate the most favorable tax benefits: a charitable deduction (in most cases) for the full fair-market value of the property plus avoidance of any potential capital-gain tax.
Life insurance itself can be the direct funding medium for a gift, permitting the donor to make a substantial gift (face value of policy) for a relatively modest annual outlay (i.e., the premium payment).
You are entitled to a charitable deduction for personal property such as works of art (not created by donor), rare books, stamp or coin collections.
Most kinds of real estate can be donated to Didi Hirsch, including personal residence, undeveloped land, farms, commercial buildings and vacation homes.
Donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law.

Whether one hour or twenty, the commitment to service that volunteers make are important to Didi Hirsch’s clients and staff. Volunteers are always welcome at Didi Hirsch; they help us achieve our mission to provide quality mental health and substance use services to people in need. If you are interested in volunteering seasonally or on a case-by-case basis by doing administrative work, teaching classes, facilitating activities, or participating in fundraising efforts, please complete a Volunteer Application and send it to Lorenza Loza ([email protected]) or call (310) 751-5353.
Our Suicide Prevention Center needs your help to staff its 24/7 Crisis Line as a volunteer Crisis Counselor! This role is one of the most intensely rewarding ways to contribute to your community while helping to erase the stigma around suicide and mental health. Many of our volunteers are pursuing careers in the mental health field or considering a career change before applying to graduate school, while others are looking for something meaningful to do in their spare time. Some have been touched by suicide, and others just want to help people in crisis.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, all training is held online via Zoom and a working camera + microphone are required for all training dates. Our training is time-intensive in order to ensure that our volunteers are ready to serve on the Crisis Line! Trainees are expected to complete all of the following:
Trainees who successfully pass all training requirements are asked to commit to at least one weekly 4-hour shift on the Crisis Line for a minimum of 12 months where they take either phone calls or chats/texts. The following are examples of shifts: 8:30AM-12:30PM, 10:30AM-2:30PM, 12:30PM-4:30PM, 2:30PM-6:30PM, 4:30PM-8:30PM, 6:30PM-10:30PM, 8:30PM-12:30AM. However, shift availability fluctuates based on the needs of the Crisis Line. All trainees go through an “apprenticeship” period during their first 3 months on the lines where they are closely monitored and given substantial support.
Volunteer work is mostly remote at this time; however, you may be required to come on-site to our Century City office for orientation and for the first few months of your volunteership. Remote opportunities may become available once a volunteer satisfies their Apprenticeship period.
Training cycles are held frequently throughout the year. To obtain more details on upcoming cycles and apply, email [email protected] or call (424) 362-2920. Our team will send you application materials and begin the screening process, which includes an initial phone interview and group interview prior to acceptance into the training class. Please note that as this is a competitive volunteership, we are unfortunately unable to accept every applicant.
